HOPE MINISTRIES NEWSLETTER >
May 29, 2015
Praise Be to Jesus who has given us new life. May He receive all the glory, honor, power and praise through our yielded vessel unto Him. In other words, “Thank You Jesus,” for all that you have done, are doing, and all you are about to do.
A special thank you to all who participated in our 5th Annual Fund-raiser; each of you coming together made it the most successful fund-raiser to date. Not only financially; the willingness of heart to share your livelihoods of personal reserves, but also “brotherly,” the sharing of your testimonies, bringing “Glory to God” in song, exhortation of Hope Ministries Helping Hearts Heal. By this I mean there was so much sharing of love from one to another as we broke bread together. Thanks again to the greeters, servers, food preparers, speakers, performers, donors and attendees.
As I write this newsletter, I would be amiss not to mention Tom and Barbara Murgatroyd. Tom is still recuperating from his Lung surgery, we thank you Lord for his increasing strength at this time. Barbara had right hip replacement surgery on May 16 2015. Needless to say, they need prayers for provision also any support you may be willing to give them. The operation was performed in Gainesville, Fl causing greater distress in their lives and that of their family.
Please be in prayer for them and ask God what he would have you do on their behalf. Thank you all as always, Blessings and Life! In Christ, Joe
“May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with Hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15: 13
I thank the Lord that He continues to extend mercy and grace to me in my walk in Him. John 3: 16-17 states “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”
Twenty three years ago I began my journey trusting in Christ to live by faith and not by sight one day at a time. My spirit being knows that my Heavenly Father is the Sovereign One. He is the authority over everything in this world. He is my peacemaker. He is my provider. He is my healer. He is my encourager. However, me myself and I keep taking over. I continue to lean on my own understanding. I am learning that if I do not plug into Him daily, minute by minute His plans for me get taken over by my plans for me. It is so important to be surrounded by a fellowship of believers who will edify and build us up in Christ. They help us press onward in Him. He is God and I am not. He knows what today holds for me. He is the author and finisher of my journey. I am to be thankful and grateful in all things today. Today is the present, the gift He has for me. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow may not come. Live today by faith in Him and live in His love, His joy, and His peace. He is the answer for everything in our life in this world. Sheila
Exciting things have been happening for me since God has called me out of my job and into his discipleship through Hope Ministries. We just finished with our 5th annual fundraiser, and I might add it was the most successful one. Thanks to all of our faithful supporters, and to our community for giving so generously. A big thank you to Edna Wesley for the motivational speech, P4:13 group and Diana Sivadon for performing, Rock the silence for blessing us, and the two testimonies that brought tears to all. I want to thank Uncle Mikes’ BBQ and Catering for another great fund-raiser dinner. Michael had been in the hospital a few days and couldn’t be there, but his family and friends were there for him and did a great job. Thanks to the ladies who made up the Auction baskets, etc. Again thank you for all you do!
At the present I am gearing up for Ryan’s Hope 5/K Run, the date and time will be announced soon.
We are on week 5 of the grief share support group. New friendships in Christ are being made as the group does what God has asked in Corinthians 1:4, He has comforted us in our troubles, so we can comfort others. Praise God healing is happening. If you have missed any, you are still welcome to come at any time don't wait for the next one to start, let the healing begin now. I am blessed to be part of Hope Ministries Staff and honored to be part of the counseling team. Send me Father in whatever direction you want me to go
We are in another great study of the book “Love Is A Choice” (The definitive book on letting go of unhealthy relationships) by Dr.’s R. Hemfelt, F. Minirth, and P. Meier at Hope Ministries 1805 Canova St. SW, Ste. 1, Palm Bay Monday’s, 5:30-7:00PM. This is about all kinds of relationships with mother; father, brother, sister, friend, and co-workers, etc. We are in Chapter 8 and have 5 more to go. It is a very in depth study. I may do a study on historical work of the family of origin, which is at the core of many issues in our lives. Hebrews 4: 13, 16
I will keep you posted via our website www.hopeministriesflorida.org .
I will be posting pictures from our 5th Annual Fund-raiser on our website soon, and would like to take this opportunity to recognize Tara Rogers for all she does every year at the Fund-raiser. She is in charge of the raffles; organizing, recruiting help, and selling during that portion of the Fund-raiser. She also helps make everything look grand, she is a beautiful cheerful greeter, and takes wonderful pictures of the activities and people enjoying themselves. She also makes beautiful albums that we display at Hope Ministries and I place some of them on our website.
Thank you, Tara and all your helpers.
LEW GERVAIS, ADDICTIONS/PASTORAL COUNSELOR
Lew’s addiction thoughts
I am working with several addicts who refuse to admit that they are addicted to drugs. If that was their only problem
it wouldn’t be so bad, however what makes their case so much worse is that they have absolutely no clue when they are experiencing drug cravings. All they know is that they find themselves becoming extremely anxious and agitated. That anxiety and agitation brings on a growing feeling that they just have to get away. Once they are out and about, the anxiety and agitation morphs into a powerful yearning to medicate their negative feelings away. That’s when their brain clicks
off and they make the subconscious decision to turn to drugs or alcohol for relief. People like that will never be able to break the relapse cycle of drugs until they first admit that drugs are a problem; and until they can learn to discern their own emotions and properly control them without the use of drugs or alcohol. Most of the addicts I am helping are addicted to pain medication. Many of them originally had a legitimate medical problem that they were being treated for, however, now they are unwilling to live with even the most miniscule level of temporary pain.
Only God can penetrate the drug controlled brain and bring clarity where confusion now lives. Our enemy, Satan, has convinced these people that they must medicate their pain or they will die. The truth is that pain will not kill anyone; but drug abuse in the end is always fatal. My hearts’ prayer for these people is that God would expose the lies they believe; and replace those deadly lies with “Truth.” John 8:32 says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” The sad reality is that many of the people who grace my office would rather live with the illusion that they can control their drug or alcohol use rather than exchange their lies for Truth. Jesus is the one medicine they will refuse to try, and He is the one medicine who can actually set them free.

MEMORIAL DAY May 25, 2015
A day set aside to remember the men and women of all the Military Armed Forces of The United States of America who gave their lives for this country and all who dwell therein.
May “We”, the people do all we can to preserve what they gave their lives for. Let us be “United” as a people in this country by being more understanding, patient, kind, loving, and considerate, of each other. May we ignite a Love of our Country again; as most of us have family and friends who made the ultimate sacrifice. Our Military Forces are made up of our families and friends risking their lives daily protecting The United States of America. May we be proud to fly our Flag and what it represents and show respect for it and our country.
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
I realize you will not receive this newsletter prior to Memorial Day, but current events, the fact we will not send another newsletter for three months and the leading of the Holy Spirit led me to include it now.
