FAITH ~ TRUST ~ HOPE
Jun 12, 2009
It has been an exciting journey since “Tropical Storm Fay” last year and the realization that America was in for a financial storm as well. The provisions for Hope also changed in our personnel as well. The Going Home of Alice Thistle;
the retirement of our Founder, Dick Phelps; Diana Sivadon our Development Director leaving to attend Regent University and
the retirement of our beloved Louis Verini, a long term Pastoral counselor. All these changes without Christ would be a destructive force. God tells us in his word that He causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 He will and has continued to replace all our needs.
Sometimes I get to dreaming and think wouldn’t it just be awesome, if we didn’t have needs anymore and then I am reminded
of Proverbs 30: 7-9. “Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.” Thank you for your prayers and support, keeping us right where the Lord wants us. The word also states that we have not because we ask not; therefore I am asking if there is someone who would like to donate a living room suite for our new informal counsel area in Unit 2. We pray for all our friends and partners in “Helping Hearts Heal.” We are thankful your continued prayers for and support of Hope Ministries. Blessings and Life, Joe

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
As President of Hope Ministries, I have, for the last two years, enjoyed overseeing and witnessing Diana working diligently in this capacity, and working as though she is truly working for the Lord.
Diana is one of those rare people that one may be fortunate to meet once in his or her life-time. She is a motivated self-starter, and when she begins a project your mind will be at peace knowing that she will see it through completion. She has an impeccable work ethic that is fully evident when she is using her many God-given “gifts.” She leaves us to pursue a Leadership and Organizational Management degree program at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. We will all miss her very much and she will remain in our hearts and prayers always.
Love in Christ, Joe Pellizze
PASTORAL COUNSELOR, BIBLICAL COUNSELOR
Louis has been with Hope since 1998 as a Pastoral Counselor, except for a short hiatus when he was a Pastoral Counselor at Prince of Peace Anglican Church, of which he was a member. In 2004 he returned to “Help Hearts Heal” as a Pastoral Counselor, much to our delight and to those he ministered. He is beginning another adventure on his life journey and as he abides in the vine; he always hears his Master’s call and obeys.
It has been my pleasure on several occasions to sit in with him with some of his women counselee’s. This was very helpful for me as a new member of the staff myself. I learned from him to rely totally upon the Holy Spirit’s leading while imparting God’s word. Nothing was said between us but I was aware of what was happening, as he ministered to these women. Louis being the epitome of a “Gentleman” is a blessing to be with and to know. He prayed for me on a couple of occasions; God heard and brought physical and spiritual healing to me. Linda Dixon.
Everyone (past and present) at Hope will miss him; although he will always be with us, for we carry “His Heart in Our Heart!”
Mary Fischer has been a part of Hope Ministries for 10 years. Starting out as one of our ”Valuable Volunteers” greeting and assisting those coming through our doors in many ways, answering telephones at the front desk, etc. Eventually she began assisting Dick Phelps, Howard Mundy, Joe Pellizze, on occasion and Louis Verini for 3 years by sitting in with them while they ministered to women counselee’s. She has received Discipleship Training at Prince of Peace Anglican, where she has been a member for many years. Upon learning of Louis’s retirement, Joe Pellizze immediately thought of Mary to step in for him. She will be on Missionary Staff as a Biblical Counselor. It makes the transition for the counselee’s much easier and a blessing for us at Hope.
DEAR FRIENDS OF HOPE,
My name is Lew Gervais and I have been on staff at Hope for about 13 years and in full time Christian ministry for over 25 years.
I quit my job as a school teacher in June of 1985 in order to go into full time ministry. I moved my family half way around the world from Guam to the Bahamas, to work with the crack addicted population in Nassau. My family and I arrived there in October 1985 and I had only raised about 25% of the support needed to sustain us. When I started to worry about our lack of finances, the Lord told me to minister to the addicted and leave the finances to Him. He told me to minister and let everyone on my mailing list know what God is doing in and through me. God told me not to beg for money but not be too proud to let people know, what our financial needs were.
The next 15 months were very lean financially, so I constantly dipped into our savings account to keep the bill collectors at bay. When my personal savings account reached the critical point of less than $100, something started to happen. I was forced to trust God and Him alone to meet our financial needs. Amazingly, God began to bring in the support, without the need for begging or pleading. God taught me that He didn’t need me to provide. All He told me to do was to write once a month and testify of what He was doing in, and through me. That was 25 years ago and I am still in full time ministry. God continues to meet my family’s financial needs. He promised to meet our needs and He has done exactly that.
There are seven missionaries that work at Hope Ministries including myself and we are responsible for raising our own support. Unlike me, for some of the staff this has been a real challenge, due to the present economy, etc. For that reason we have made it easy for anyone who would like to become a part of our support team. We need an army of people who believe in what we are doing to keep this ministry alive. Our overhead expenses at Hope have gone up and some regular supporters are unable to give. We are not trying to manipulate or guilt anyone into giving; we only want to faithfully communicate the need. The results belong to God. If God so leads you to become a part of our support team, you may go to our website at www.hopeministriesflorida.org under the tab that says,
“Partner with Hope” and you can make a donation using Pay Pal or your credit card. The old fashion way of mailing us a check or coming into the office and making a donation would also be great. We fully understand that many people can not give at this time but all of us can pray. If we do that He will take care of the needs. That is what He promised.
We thank you for being such an important part of our Hope family. On behalf of Hope Ministries, Lew Gervais
